How To Set A Featured Image
To set a featured image for a post or page, follow the instructions in this video:
Updating Background Videos
Note: Video file sizes must be kept low or they will take a long time to load. File sizes must be kept under 5mb and preferably under 3mb.
Navigate to the page that contains the video. For example, if the video is on your home page go to the WordPress dashboard > Pages > Home.
The video section will look like this :
To update the video you will need to change out 4 different URL’s in this section. One URL will be for the still image that shows when the video is not playing. The other 3 URL’s are for the different file formats of the video. Once you have chosen a new video, you will have to convert it into three file formats, .ogv, .mp4, .webm. Also, you should create a still image out of the first frame of the video.
To get the URL for each file, navigate to the WordPress dashboard and click the Media tab. Drag the new files in to upload them. You can find the URL to each file if you click on it.
Once you have the URLs….
Enter the still image URL here:
Enter the .mp4 version of the video here:
Enter the .webm version of the video here:
Enter the .ogv version of the video here:
Click “update” and you should be ready to go!
How do I create or edit a gallery on my website?
Galleries are created similarly to how we add images to a posts or a page.
Create
When editing/creating a posts/page you can create a gallery simply by clicking the “Add Media” button. In the pop up window click the “Create Gallery” link on the left. You can now upload images or choose images that have been previously uploaded to your site. Once the images you want in the gallery are all selected click the “Create a new gallery” button on the bottom right.
On the next screen you can change the order of the images by dragging and dropping or by clicking the “Reverse order” at the top of the screen. The options on the right are not usually needed and can be left set to default (If your galleries are in a mosaic or pinterest style gallery look below for additional instructions). Once the order is set you can click the “Insert Gallery” button on the bottom right.
Pinterest Style
If your galleries are in the Pinterest or Mosaic style you will need to do a couple more things before saving the galleries. In the “Galler Settings” area on the right side of the gallery popup you will need to change the “Link To” option to “Media File” and the “Type” option to “Tiled Mosaic”
Edit
To edit a previously created gallery, navigate to the page/post where the gallery is and click on one of the thumbnail images in the editor. You can now click the edit icon (pencil) that pops up and proceed to edit the gallery by adding new images or changing the order of the images.
Last But Not Least
If your site has multiple galleries in a parent – child format meaning your site structure is something like the following
Home
Gallery
— Gallery 1
— Gallery 2.
You will need to make some changes in the “Page Attributes” section of the Page Edit screen. In the right hand column below the Publish Section is a section Titled “Page Attributes”. In this section is two dropdowns. The Parent Dropdown should be set to the page you would like as the current galleries parent. In the Example above “Gallery 1” has a parent page of “Gallery”. Doing this is what creates the correct URL structure as well as allows the Gallery page to list out all of its children galleries. The last step is to change the “Template” dropdown to “Gallery”. This allows linking this page to all the other galleries that have the same parent page as the current gallery.
How do I add images to my sidebar?
The easiest way to add images to your sidebar is by using the “Image Widget”. You can follow the instructions in the video below to get a better understanding of how this image works.
How do I add videos to my website?
Getting videos to load on your site can be done in a couple of different ways. You can either host the video on your own server or you can use an embed code form a video hosting site like Youtube or Vimeo. We suggests the latter as it is easier to manage and insures that every visitor to your site will be able to see your video.
Instructions for adding video to your website.
Embed From Video Sharing Site – Suggested Method
Embedding a video from Youtube/Vimeo is simple. First either navigate to the video or create an account on one of the two sites and upload your own video. Once the video is active on the site you can simply copy the url of the video and paste it directly into the text editor. You wordpress site will create the embed code for you.
Self Hosted
If you go the self hosted route you will want to navigate to your dashboard and click on “Media” from the last hand side of the screen. Next you will want to click on “Add New” and upload the video from your computer. In order for all of your users to see the video across all devices you will need to upload a MP4 video as well as a video in .OGG format. In order to make these different formats you will need video software that can export to different file types. This is why we suggest going the Youtube/Vimeo route.
